The Texas Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education is having a public hearing this morning to review compliance with the state's anti-DEI law. The state legislature passed Senate Bill 17 last year, barring public education institutions from having diversity, equity and inclusion offices. Republican Sen. Brandon Creighton of Conroe wrote the bill, and warned chancellors in late March that noncompliant schools could lose state funding. The committee will take no action, but will make recommendations for colleges to review their free speech policies and combat antisemitism.
